English
  • 1 hour
  • This course has been designed to develop our students’ understanding of literary techniques and their applications both in writing and reading comprehension. These are the core focus of the English exams in the stage 2 of the 11+ entrance examinations and are often tough to prepare for. Tutors will guide students through textual analysis, helping them identify the writer’s purposeful choices, how language is used for effect, and highlighting key features that students can replicate in their own works.
  • By the end of this course, our students will have covered:
    • Interpretation and analysis of quality texts of various genres.
    • Evaluation of language use and the effect of word choice on narrative.
    • Articulating answers to challenging reading comprehension questions with supporting evidence.
    • Fluency and confidence in reading & writing.
    • Mock Tests on Day 4 and Day 5.

Maths
  • 1 hour
  • We have handpicked tricky topics which often prove to be the stumbling blocks inthe 11+ examinations, with a particular focus throughout the course on worded problem-solving questions that even the brightest students find the most challenging.
  • By the end of this course, our students will have covered:
    • Revision of key examinable topics: fractions, ratio, geometry, graphs, area, perimeter, angles, time and many more!
    • Applied mathematics and worded problem solving questions to gain confidence in systematic mathematical reasoning.
    • Enhanced exam technique for answering even the most challenging questions.
    • Clear presentation of working out to show mathematical reasoning.
    • Mock Tests on Day 4 and Day 5.

  • 1 hour 30 minutes

  • By the end of this course, our students will have covered:
    • Pattern recognition and application.
    • Improved vocabulary and spelling.
    • Fully practiced and confident in answering a wide range of question types used in 11+ examinations.

Dates and Times

This course runs from 23rd to 27th October, Monday to Friday. Each day, classes will run between 9am and 2.15pm. Each subject that you select will run for 60 minutes per day (except VR&NVR being 90 minutes), with a short break after each class.

Your timetable will be bespoke to you, as it is entirely dependent on your chosen subjects and availability, and will be confirmed to you once booking closes in October.

Homework and Marking

Students will be given a daily homework task for each subject, which will consist of completing their homework booklet from that day.

The day after submission, their homework booklets will be marked and returned to you with teachers comments, to give rapid feedback on progress, students’ strengths and weaknesses, and areas to focus on.

In case you’d like to review any of the work with your child after the course itself, markschemes will also be made available to view on the online portal, for 3 weeks after the date of the lesson.
