Our Easter Intensive Course Year 5 Course offers the perfect boost in our students’ progress and confidence during their 11+ examination preparation.

The purpose of this course is to revise topics that our students have learnt in previous academic years with a particular focus on introducing how to apply this knowledge in an examination setting to achieve top marks.

Year 5 Essay Writing booklet thumbnail

Essay Writing
  • 1 hour
  • This course seeks to develop style and substance in students’ purposive writing and their analysis of different texts. Students will be taught the best approach to exam-style reading comprehension questions, a key examinable skill in the 11+ examinations, along with different creative writing tasks designed to stretch and challenge them.
  • By the end of the course, our students will have covered:
    • Interpretation and analysis of quality texts of various genres.
    • Evaluation of language use and the effect of word choice on narrative and reader.
    • Articulating answers to 11+ style reading comprehension questions.
    • Ways to approach writing different genres.
    • Improve the quality of their writing through improved sentence structure, figurative language, language skills and wider vocabulary use.

Literacy
  • 1 hour
  • The focus of this course is to improve our students’ library of advanced vocabulary and target correct spelling, grammar and punctuation (SPAG), which is highly examinable in the 11+ examinations. This is crucial foundational knowledge which when applied with confidence and accuracy leads to top marks in any written task.
  • By the end of the course, we expect that students will have covered:
    • How to evaluate and learn language patterns and irregular forms.
    • The identification and correction of errors in transcription, and its application to checking their own work.
    • Writing with range and accuracy, using complex sentence structures, advanced punctuation, and sophisticated vocabulary.

Maths

  • Our approach for this course is to reinforce the core knowledge which forms the foundation of Maths exam technique. This course will encourage mathematical reasoning and build on the understanding of concepts taught in previous academic years, meaning that students are equipped with breadth and depth in their knowledge which is crucial for success in the 11+ .
  • By the end of the course, our students will have covered:
    • Revision of key examinable topics: number functions and operations, multiplication, division, area, perimeter, angles, basic algebra and many more!
    • Worded problem solving questions to gain confidence in systematic mathematical reasoning.
    • Enhanced exam technique for answering even the most challenging questions.
    • Clear presentation of working out to show mathematical reasoning.

Year 5 VRNVR booklet thumbnail

VR & NVR
  • 2 hours
  • This course will hone our students’ critical thinking and problem-solving skills. These skills form the foundation of many of the other subjects that we teach at OxBridge Centre, such as Maths and Literacy, and are also highly effective in preparation for the 11+ examinations which require excellent logical reasoning skills.
  • By the end of the course, our students will have covered:
    • Pattern recognition and application.
    • Improved vocabulary and spelling.
    • Fully practiced and confident in answering a wide range of question types used in 11+ examinations.

Dates and Times

This course runs from 3rd to 7th April, Monday to Friday. Each day, classes will run between 9am and 2.45pm. Each subject that you select will run for 60 minutes per day (except VR&NVR being 120 minutes), with a short break in between the classes.

VR&NVR is a 4 day course; Monday - Thursday (3rd - 6th April). All other subjects run for 5 days.

Your timetable will be bespoke to you, as it is entirely dependent on your chosen subjects and availability, and will be confirmed to you by 24th March.

Homework and Marking

Students will be given a daily homework task for each subject, which will consist of completing their booklets from that day.

The day after submission, their booklets will be marked and returned to you with teachers comments, to give rapid feedback on progress, students’ strengths and weaknesses, and areas to focus on.

In case you’d like to review any of the work with your child after the course itself, markschemes will also be made available to view on the online portal, for 3 weeks after the date of the lesson.

5% discount is applied for 3 subjects combination booking.

10% discount is applied for booking all 4 subjects.

5% Sibling Discount on total Course price available when booking siblings for the Full Duration of the course.

Pricing

We will book students on to our courses on a first-come first-served basis, with 'All Subjects' bookings taking priority. All other combination of subjects will be offered a place depending on availability.

  • £125 per subject for the week; £200 for VR&NVR
  • £25 per hour;

The price includes:

  • A unique and proprietary OxBridge workbook with each lesson.
  • Daily homework marking with personalised Tutor’s feedback.
  • 60 minutes of tuition per subject, per day (120 minutes for VR&NVR).
  • Expert tuition, from tutors who have successfully passed hundreds of children through 11+ examinations.

To begin the booking process, we require a £100 deposit, or full payment (whichever is less). This will register your interest on joining the course and you will be placed on a queue for our team to process your booking.

It is possible to pay by installments, on arrangement with our Course Planning Team. All payments must be completed by 17th March 2023.

NB. Priority is given to those who book 'All Subjects', and spaces will be offered as First Come First Served, based on the timestamp order of deposit received. We will confirm your space on the course in writing, via an email with subject line 'Booking Confirmation'.
