The Easter Intensive Online Course is the perfect introductory course for our Year 4 students and offers a head-start in the marathon that is 11+ preparation.

It is jam-packed with challenging concepts and topics within the curriculum that come up time and time again in the 11+ examinations.

Our Online Course is held on an online platform called BigBlueButton, which has tons of interactive features to replicate the traditional classroom and keep our students engaged!

Subjects

Year 4 English booklet thumbnail

English
  • 1 hour
  • This course has been designed to develop our students’ understanding of literary techniques and their applications both in writing and reading comprehension. These are the core focus of the English exams in the stage 2 of the 11+ entrance examinations and are often tough to prepare for, so we highly recommend starting early. Tutors will guide students through analysis of a variety of texts, helping them identify the writer’s purposeful choices to illustrate how language is used for effect. These key features studied will form a foundation for students to adapt and replicate in their own works.
  • By the end of this course, our students will have covered:
    • Interpret and analyse texts efficiently by ‘reading between the lines’ for deeper meaning.
    • Improve the quality of their writing through improved sentence structure, figurative language, language skills and wider vocabulary use.
    • Gain confidence and knowledge in spelling, punctuation and grammar (SPAG).
    • Read and write more fluently and confidently.

Maths

  • We have handpicked tricky topics which often prove to be the stumbling blocks in the 11+ examinations, with a particular focus throughout the course on worded problem-solving questions that even the brightest students find the most challenging.
  • By the end of this course, our students will have covered:
    • Explain their thinking, including showing their working out.
    • Reason mathematically, and apply their knowledge for problem solving.
    • Speed up on calculations of increasingly complex arithmetic.
    • Recognise and apply important mathematical knowledge.

Dates and Times

This course runs from 3rd to 7th April, Monday to Friday. Each day, classes will run between 9am and 11:15am. Each subject that you select will run for 60 minutes per day, with a short break in between the classes.

Your timetable will be bespoke to you, as it is entirely dependent on your chosen subjects and availability, and will be confirmed to you by 24th March.

Homework and Marking

Students will be given a daily homework task for each subject. Homework should be uploaded online every night.

The day after submission, their homework will be marked and returned to you with teacher comments, to give rapid feedback on progress, students’ strengths and weaknesses, and areas to focus on.

For the remaining work, markschemes will also be made available for you to view on the online portal at your own convenience, and review/marking should be completed at home. These will remain available for viewing for 3 weeks after the end of the course.

Pricing

We will book students on to our courses on a first-come first-served basis, with 'All Subjects' bookings taking priority. All other combination of subjects will be offered a place depending on availability.

To begin the booking process, we require a £100 deposit, or full payment (whichever is less). This will register your interest on joining the course and you will be placed on a queue for our team to process your booking.

It is possible to pay by installments, on arrangement with our Course Planning Team. All payments must be completed by 17th March 2023.

NB. Priority is given to those who book 'All Subjects', and spaces will be offered as First Come First Served, based on the timestamp order of deposit received. We will confirm your space on the course in writing, via an email with subject line 'Booking Confirmation'.
