Our Easter Intensive Course Year 5 Course offers the perfect boost in our students’ progress and confidence during their 11+ examination preparation.

The purpose of this course is to revise topics that our students have learnt in previous academic years with a particular focus on introducing how to apply this knowledge in an examination setting to achieve top marks.

Year 5 Essay Writing booklet thumbnail

Essay Writing
  • 1 hour
  • This course aims to develop students’ ability to analyse and write stories. Through studying the work of different authors, students will explore the best approaches to answering exam-style reading comprehension questions. Tutors will guide them through each aspect of storytelling, encouraging them to replicate the techniques they learn in their own writing to create engaging and imaginative stories.
  • During this course, students will develop their ability to:
    • Answer a range of different 11+ style reading comprehension questions.
    • Enhance the quality of their writing through the use of varied sentence structures, figurative language, and an extensive vocabulary.
    • Explore how writers use description, language and figurative techniques for effect and apply these concepts fluently to their own written work.
    • Learn how to effectively plan, structure and write a response to a range of different prompts.

Literacy
  • 1 hour
  • This course aims to give students a comprehensive understanding of spelling, grammar and punctuation. Students will explore a comprehensive range of Literacy topics, from core skills such as effective usage of punctuation, to advanced topics such as application of stylistic grammar. This is crucial foundational knowledge which when applied with confidence and accuracy leads to top marks in any written task.
  • During this course, students will develop their ability to:
    • Evaluate and learn language patterns and irregular forms.
    • Write with range and accuracy, using advanced punctuation, sophisticated vocabulary and excellent grammar.
    • Understand why and how specific punctuation types and grammatical structures are used.
    • Identify and correct errors in transcription and their own work.

Maths
  • 1 hour
  • This course aims to consolidate and extend students’ understanding of core topics, equipping students with the breadth and depth in their knowledge which is crucial for success in the 11+. Students will learn how to apply their knowledge flexibly to challenging problem solving questions using clear mathematical reasoning.
  • During this course, students will develop their ability to:
    • Tackle complex questions on a wide range of examinable topics, including fractions, decimals, percentages, the area and perimeter of shapes and units of time.
    • Apply their knowledge and understanding flexibly and fluently to answer even the most challenging problem solving questions.
    • Present their mathematical reasoning clearly and logically.

VR & NVR
  • 2 hours
  • This course aims to hone our students’ critical thinking and problem-solving skills. These skills form the foundation of many of the other subjects that we teach at OxBridge Centre, such as Maths and Literacy, and are also highly effective in preparation for the 11+ examinations which require excellent logical reasoning skills.
  • During this course, students will develop their ability to:
    • Recognise patterns and visualise hypothetical shapes.
    • Manipulate puzzles, codes and diagrams.
    • Extend their vocabulary and spell accurately and consistently.
    • Confidently employ effective approaches to answer a wide variety of Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning question types.

Dates and Times

This course runs from 1st to 5th April, Monday to Friday. Each day, classes will run between 9am and 2.45pm. Each subject that you select will run for 60 minutes per day (except VR&NVR being 120 minutes), with a short break in between the classes.

VR&NVR is a 4 day course; Tuesday - Friday (2nd - 5th April). All other subjects run for 5 days.

Your timetable will be bespoke to you, as it is entirely dependent on your chosen subjects and availability, and will be confirmed to you by 22nd March.

Homework and Marking

Students will be given a daily homework task for each subject which must be uploaded before 9am the day after it has been set.

The day after submission, homework booklets will be marked and returned to you with comments from the tutor, providing feedback on your student’s progress and outlining key areas for them to focus further on.

Mark schemes will also be made available for you to view on the online portal at your own convenience, allowing you to review and mark any work completed in class. These will remain available for viewing throughout the rest of the academic year to assist in preparation for 11+ examinations.

5% discount is applied for 3 subjects combination booking.

10% discount is applied for booking all 4 subjects.

5% Sibling Discount on total Course price available when booking siblings for the Full Duration of the course.

Pricing

We will book students on to our courses on a first-come first-served basis, with 'All Subjects' bookings taking priority. All other combination of subjects will be offered a place depending on availability.

  • £28 per hour;

  • A week’s worth of our bespoke classwork and homework booklets, delivered to your door.
  • Daily homework marking with personalised Tutor’s feedback.
  • 60 minutes of tuition per subject, per day (120 minutes for VR&NVR).
  • Expert tuition, from tutors who have successfully passed hundreds of children through 11+ examinations.

To begin the booking process, we require a £100 deposit, or full payment (whichever is less). This will register your interest on joining the course and you will be placed on a queue for our team to process your booking.

It is possible to pay by installments, on arrangement with our Course Planning Team. All payments must be completed by 15th March 2024.

NB. Priority is given to those who book 'All Subjects', and spaces will be offered as First Come First Served, based on the timestamp order of deposit received. We will confirm your space on the course in writing, via an email with subject line 'Booking Confirmation'.
