The February Half-Term Online Course is the perfect introductory course for our Year 4 students and offers a head-start in the marathon that is 11+ preparation.

It is jam-packed with challenging concepts and topics within the curriculum that come up time and time again in the 11+ examinations.

Our Online Course is held on an online platform called BigBlueButton, which has tons of interactive features to replicate the traditional classroom and keep our students engaged!

Subjects

Year 4 English booklet thumbnail

English
  • 1 hour
  • This course has been designed to develop our students’ understanding of literary techniques and their applications both in writing and reading comprehension. These are the core focus of the English exams in the stage 2 of the 11+ entrance examinations and are often tough to prepare for, so we highly recommend starting early. Tutors will guide students through analysis of a variety of texts, helping them identify the writer’s purposeful choices to illustrate how language is used for effect. Students will learn how to adapt and replicate these key writing features in their own works.
  • During this course, students will develop their ability to:
    • Interpret and analyse texts efficiently by ‘reading between the lines’ for deeper meaning.
    • Employ a range of sentence structures, figurative language, and extensive vocabulary to improve the quality of their writing.
    • Convey their ideas clearly and effectively, using accurate spelling, punctuation and grammar (SPAG).
    • Read and write more fluently and confidently.

Maths

  • This course aims to establish and extend our students’ understanding of key mathematical concepts. We have handpicked tricky topics which often prove to be the stumbling blocks in the 11+ examinations, with a particular focus throughout the course on worded problem-solving questions that even the brightest students find the most challenging.
  • During this course, students will develop their ability to:
    • Confidently approach a range of core mathematical concepts.
    • Answer complex arithmetic questions quickly and accurately.
    • Apply their knowledge effectively to challenging problem solving questions.
    • Present their working out clearly and explain their reasoning.

Dates and Times

This course runs from 17th to 21st February, Monday to Friday. Each day, classes will run between 9am and 1pm. Each subject that you select will run for 60 minutes per day, with a short break after each class.

Your timetable will be bespoke to you, as it is entirely dependent on your chosen subjects and availability, and will be confirmed to you by 7th February 2025.

Homework and Marking

Students will be given a daily homework task for each subject which must be uploaded before 9am the day after it has been set.

The day after submission, homework booklets will be marked and returned to you with comments from the tutor, providing feedback on your student’s progress and outlining key areas for them to focus further on.

Markschemes will also be made available for you to view on the online portal at your own convenience, allowing you to review and mark any work completed in class. These will remain accessible until the end of the year.

Pricing

We will book students on to our courses on a first-come first-served basis, with 'All Subjects' bookings taking priority. All other combinations of subjects will be offered a place depending on availability.

  • A week’s worth of our bespoke classwork and homework booklets, delivered to your door.
  • Daily homework marking with personalised feedback from our tutors.
  • 60 minutes of tuition per subject, per day.
  • Expert tuition through proven methods that have successfully helped hundred of students pass their 11+ examinations.

To book onto the course, we will require a minimum payment of a £100 Deposit (Non-Refundable). It is possible to pay by installments on arrangement with our Course Planning Team. All payments must be completed by 12th January 2025.
