KS4 Courses
As students transition into Key Stage 4, the focus shifts towards mastering subject content and developing the analytical and exam-specific skills required for GCSE success. Building on the strong foundations laid at Key Stage 3, our KS4 curriculum in English, Maths, and Science becomes more targeted and rigorous, with an emphasis on critical thinking, problem-solving, and effective revision strategies. This stage equips students not only to meet the demands of the GCSE specifications but to excel in them, laying the groundwork for future academic and career pathways.
In Year 10, students deepen their knowledge of English Literature and Language through a broad curriculum covering the 19th-century novel, advanced poetry, persuasive writing, and drama. They develop analytical and comparative skills while exploring themes such as morality, power, and relationships. The year ends with a focus on advanced creative writing, building confidence in narrative structure and character development.
In Year 11, the emphasis shifts to refining skills and preparing for final examinations. Students revisit key anthology themes, practise both fiction and non-fiction writing, and develop sophisticated techniques in creative and critical reading. Regular exam-focused tasks and targeted feedback support continued progress towards top grades.
In Year 10, students build a strong foundation in core mathematical concepts, revisiting number skills and exploring algebra, geometry, ratio, probability, and mensuration. Topics include standard form, surds, equations, straight-line graphs, trigonometry, and transformations, ensuring a thorough understanding of essential methods and formulae.
In Year 11, students consolidate and extend their knowledge through advanced algebra, vectors, graph transformations, and circle theorems. They also study data handling and probability in greater depth. The year places a strong focus on exam preparation, with structured revision and targeted practice using past papers from major exam boards.
In Year 10, students develop a strong foundation in Biology, Chemistry and Physics, covering core topics such as cell biology, atomic structure, bonding, energy, and electricity. As the year progresses, they explore more advanced areas including inheritance, evolution, electrolysis, and nuclear radiation. Practical work and regular assessments support the development of key scientific skills and exam technique.
In Year 11, students extend their knowledge through advanced topics such as the nervous system, organic chemistry, and waves. With a strong emphasis on revision and exam preparation, they engage in focused study of key areas, complete structured past paper practice, and refine their approach to extended and calculation-based questions.
