Frequent Questions

Face-to-face Course

We are only able to offer places to those participating in all subjects for the full 3 weeks due to the consistently high demand for the limited places, coupled with timetabling constraints. If you are looking for more flexibility regarding subjects/duration of the course, take a look at our Online Summer Intensive Course!

Due to the timetabling of our courses, all students joining the F2F SIC are required to take all subjects. If you are interested in taking fewer subjects, please feel free to check out our online courses.

Our Year 4 Summer Intensive Course will have a maximum of 10 students per class. There are 80 places available in total (40 for the morning session, 40 for the afternoon session)

Please fill in the Face-to-face Summer Intensive Course booking form with your details and ensure you pay the £100 deposit or the full course fees (whichever is less) in order to be placed on a queue for our team to process your booking.

Your place will be confirmed by our team based on availability followed by complete payment by the 22nd June 2025.

Our final deadline for payments is 23:59 on the 22nd June. If we have not received full payment by this date, sadly we will not be able to offer you a place on the course.

We understand that circumstances can change and you may need to withdraw from the course.

We offer:

  • 100% refund (minus the £100 non-refundable deposit) up until the 2nd March 2025
  • Unfortunately after the 2nd March we are unable to offer any refunds.

Make sure to let us know as early as you if your child is unable to attend the course.

Unfortunately, we do not offer refunds/reduced rates for any absence during the course unless your child is sick and can produce a doctor’s note for our team. We will, however, be able to provide all of the workbooks and resources for collection to be completed at home.

The Year 4 Summer Intensive Course is held Mon-Fri, ½ days. Each day comprises three 1-hour classes (Essay Writing, Maths, English Literature), with 10 minute breaks in between.

Each student is allocated either the morning (9am-12.20pm) or afternoon (12.20pm-4pm) session; you will be asked for your preference for the morning/afternoon session on the booking form.

We offer an early bird discount of 15% on both the Year 4 and Year 5 Summer Intensive Courses for full payments made before 2nd March 2025!

We also offer an additional 5% sibling discount for any siblings booked onto an SIC course at the same time.

We offer a £60 referral credit for customers who refer someone new to Oxbridge to the SIC. The credit will apply to both the referring and the new customer. The credit will go towards the next Academic Year tuition fees, on your return to Oxbridge Centre.

Just let us know the name of the referring customer, or the new customer being referred during booking, and we will take care of the rest!

Our students will require basic stationery (pen, pencil, rubber, ruler etc), water bottle, and enthusiasm to learn!

Please notify us if your child has any severe allergies, medical conditions, or any regular medications that we should be aware of prior to the start of the course so that necessary arrangements can be made.

As their daily homework, students will be required to complete their booklets for all four subjects, which will include an extended writing task for English.

The completed booklet is submitted the following day and will be marked by our marking team, along with individual feedback from our tutors. Our aim is to provide timely feedback in order to maximise learning and improvement during our course.

Markschemes will be available for you to review the course material with your child until the end of the year.

Our Summer Intensive Course is aptly titled as we try to pack in as much as we can within the 3-weeks. In particular, our Year 5 Summer Intensive Course is held in the lead up to the 11+ entrance examinations and it is our duty to equip all of our students with the necessary tools needed to succeed. We understand that it is an intense workload, but from our years of experience, we recognise that the students who put in the most hard work are also those who gain the most from our course.

If your child is unable to complete all of the homework for the following day, we will still do our best to mark the completed work at a later date, but can not guarantee that it will be marked before the end of the course.

The timetable will be ready for you by 30th June 2025.

We will be providing assessment tasks for completion before the start of the course. These assessment tasks will inform class allocation. Throughout the course, OxBridge will monitor student performance, and make adjustments to classes where necessary.

More information about the assessment tasks will be provided in due course.

Unfortunately, due to the collaborative and interactive nature of English Literature, we felt it was best placed in a classroom environment. If you are deciding between online and face-to-face courses, drop us an email and we would be happy to give you more information to help with your decision.

The Summer Intensive Course will operate much like our Regular Courses. We use a platform called ‘Big Blue Button’ to create virtual classrooms and the tutor is always visible on the screen along with the class material. There are various ways that our students can interact with the tutor and classmates; tutors and students can annotate the material with their mouse, there is an interactive poll feature, students can unmute their microphones to answer questions, or type in the live chat box.

You will get access to the online classroom via the online portal once your payment has been processed and the timetabling has been finalised.

For our Online Summer Intensive Course, we will be posting all learning materials to customers residing in the UK, prior to the course.

Our Year 4 Summer Intensive Course acts as a springboard for students starting their preparations for 11+ examinations. During the course, students will develop the crucial foundational tools and approaches that they will need to succeed. This preparation will ensure that, throughout Year 5, they will be able to focus on tackling topics they find particularly challenging, applying their understanding to a range of complex questions, and developing mastery of the full range of content.

This course will be held in the quiet surroundings of our Sutton Centre, where students will have the undivided attention of our expert tutors and an exclusive space to focus in small groups on collaborative and individual study.

Through this course, students will develop an understanding of the level of rigour required to succeed in the 11+ and will establish effective approaches to examinations and revision, all while having fun in the process!

Subjects

Essay Writing

This course sets students up for success by providing clear, memorable guidance to follow when tackling a range of formal and creative essay types. Although Essay Writing is a key element of 11+ examinations, it is not a skill taught extensively at primary school. This course provides students with invaluable insight into the requirements and characteristics of a wide variety of writing styles, giving them the confidence they need to succeed. Students will analyse how writers employ different techniques and styles, and will be encouraged to apply this knowledge to their own writing.

Students will develop their ability to:

  • Respond to a range of writing prompts effectively and understand the requirements of different essay types;
  • Understand and interpret the creative choices writers make through text analysis; and
  • Improve the quality of their writing through improved sentence structure, figurative language skills and wider vocabulary use.

Maths

This course provides students with the foundational knowledge they need to confidently begin their 11+ preparations. Each day, guided by our expert tutors, students will focus on a different key topic in depth, exploring in detail any concepts which are particularly challenging. They will be encouraged to put their understanding into practice through increasing complex problem solving questions.

Students will develop their ability to:

  • Answer questions on a wide range of key topics confidently;
  • Tackle complex arithmetic problems with speed and accuracy;
  • Apply their mathematical knowledge to challenging problem solving questions; and
  • Explain their thinking and write their workings out clearly and concisely.

English Literature

English Literature is aimed at fostering a love for reading, opening up Year 4 students’ minds to the wonder and joy that books can bring. Being an avid reader has consistently proven to be an important success factor for students taking the 11+. As readers develop a broad range of vocabulary, they can utilise writing techniques, and discover life experiences that otherwise would be inaccessible for students of this age. We provide a challenging novel for all students to keep, at no extra cost, so that we can use it as an entry point for these open-ended lessons, to support the development of higher-order thinking, research, and creative skills.

Through this course, we seek to go beyond the basics of reading, by encouraging students to think deeply and to analyse creatively. For this reason, we have structured this mostly aural course to be as interactive as possible. Each session provides a time to think deeply about the concepts underlying the text and allows students to articulate opinions through guided debates. These are all skills that will stand students in good stead when it comes to the 11+, and in further studies.

By the end of the course, we expect that students will:

  • Have re-discovered a passion for reading;
  • Have developed an inquisitive and analytical approach to reading;
  • Be able to articulate and evidence their interpretation of the text and the creative writing techniques within the text; and
  • Enjoy the challenge and pace of the reading required for students taking the 11+.
