11+ October half term Course (Year 6)

27th October – 31st October

Our Year 6 October Half Term Course is designed to refine and sharpen the skills pupils need in the final run-up to the 11+ and independent school entrance exams. Across the week, students will work intensively on English, Mathematics, and Verbal & Non-Verbal Reasoning, with regular opportunities to apply their knowledge through timed practice papers and exam-style questions.

This course not only consolidates knowledge but also strengthens exam strategies—helping pupils to manage time effectively, tackle tricky questions with confidence, and remain focused under pressure. Small group teaching ensures targeted support while maintaining a fast-paced, challenging learning environment.

Build advanced comprehension and writing skills with a focus on exam precision. Essay writing sessions cover the most common 11+ formats—narrative, descriptive, persuasive—ensuring pupils can adapt to any prompt in the exam.

Maths

Tackle high-level topics frequently seen in 11+ exams, including tricky areas such as fractions, measurement, algebra, data handling, and geometry. Lessons combine topic mastery with timed problem-solving, teaching pupils to present clear, methodical solutions and avoid common exam pitfalls.

Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning

Strengthen logical thinking, vocabulary, and pattern recognition with full coverage of the problem types used in 11+ assessments. Students develop fast, systematic approaches to both word-based and visual reasoning questions, boosting speed and accuracy under exam conditions.

Homework and Marking

Face-to-face course

Students will be given a separate homework booklet each day for each subject, consisting of 3 pages of tasks reflecting the topics covered during the lesson. Students must submit their homework at the start of the following day. These booklets will be marked and returned to you with tutor’s comments, providing feedback on students’ progress and highlighting their strengths and areas for improvement.

In case you’d like to review any of the work with your child after the course itself, mark schemes will be made available to view on the online portal for 3 weeks after the final day of the course.
