11+ February Half Term Course (Year 5)
16th – 20th February 2026
Our February Half-Term Year 5 Course provides an excellent opportunity for students to strengthen their progress and boost their confidence as they prepare for the 11+ examinations.
This programme is designed to revisit key topics taught in previous academic years, ensuring students consolidate their understanding before moving into more advanced content. Alongside revision, the course places a strong emphasis on applying knowledge effectively in an examination setting. Students will learn how to interpret questions accurately, structure their work with clarity, and use strategies that help them secure top marks.
Our experienced tutors guide students through each step, offering personalised support and targeted practice to address individual learning needs. By the end of the week, students should feel more assured, better equipped, and ready to approach their 11+ journey with confidence.
We look forward to welcoming you to our February Half-Term Course.

Subjects
Literacy
Our Year 5 Literacy Course strengthens the essential skills that sit behind all high-level writing, helping students use vocabulary, spelling, grammar, and punctuation with confidence and accuracy. Tutors break down tricky language patterns, guide students in spotting and correcting mistakes, and teach them how to craft more varied, precise sentences. By building a stronger command of English, students become more confident writers and are better equipped to achieve top marks across all 11+ written tasks.
Reading Comprehension & Essay Writing
Our Year 5 Essay Writing Course helps students sharpen both their reading and writing skills as they get closer to the 11+ exams. Tutors guide children through high-quality texts, showing them how to understand deeper meaning and how word choices shape a story. They also learn clear methods for answering exam-style comprehension questions and practise writing in a range of genres. Throughout the course, students build stronger sentences, use more expressive language, and develop a wider vocabulary — all of which help them produce more confident, polished writing in the run-up to the 11+.
Maths
Our Year 5 Maths Course strengthens the core skills students need for confident 11+ performance, helping them move beyond simple methods and apply their knowledge to a wide range of problem-solving questions. Tutors guide children through key topics — from number and operations to area, perimeter, angles and early algebra — and show them how to tackle challenging worded problems step by step. Students learn to work accurately, choose effective strategies, and present their reasoning clearly, giving them the strong exam technique needed to approach even the toughest questions with confidence.
VR & NVR
Our Year 5 Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning Course builds the advanced logical thinking skills students need to perform strongly in the 11+ exams. Over two hours each day, tutors guide children through a wide range of reasoning question types, helping them spot patterns, think logically, and approach unfamiliar problems with confidence. They also strengthen the vocabulary and accurate spelling required for verbal reasoning tasks. By the end of the course, students tackle challenging questions more quickly, clearly, and independently — key advantages in the exam setting.
Homework and Marking
Face-to-face course
Students will be given a homework booklet or revision task each day for each subject. Homework consists of 3 pages of tasks reflecting the topics covered during the day’s lesson. Students must submit their homework at the start of the following day. These booklets will be marked and returned to you with the tutor’s comments, providing feedback on students’ progress and highlighting their strengths and areas for improvement.
In case you’d like to review any of the work with your child after the course itself, mark schemes will be made available to view on the online portal until the end of the year, in December.

Testimonials
My daughter attended on-line lessons from year 4 to 5 and it helped her to develop both her grammar and vocabulary knowledge. This massively helped her to prepare for the 11+ exam and successfully got the place. Their materials are top marks, well structured and illustrated. Thank you so much Oxbridge Centre!
Emily Guess
My daughter had lessons in Oxbridge Sutton Centre before entering Sutton High. Her English and Math improved a lot and it ended up with the happy entry to the school we wanted. Certainly, we recommend this institute and good luck to your kids.

Teachers are very friendly and encouraging. My daughter had developed confidence with her math and English. We never expected her to achieve great success in +11 Plus but with the help of Oxbridge tutors she manage to get in Tiffin Girls school. Thank you so much.
Joanne Lee
My daughter attended Oxbridge Sutton for approximately two years, starting from Year 5 and currently in Year 7.
