Our Year 5 October Half Term Course is designed to give pupils an intensive yet engaging learning experience in preparation for the 11+ examinations. Over the course of the week, students will strengthen their core skills across Literacy, Reading Comprehension and Essay Writing, Mathematics, and Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning. Each subject is taught by experienced tutors who understand the demands of the 11+, ensuring that every lesson builds knowledge, confidence, and exam technique.
Whether your child is aiming for grammar school entry or independent school admissions, this course offers targeted support in all key examinable areas. The small group format enables personalised attention, allowing tutors to address individual learning needs while maintaining a challenging and stimulating classroom environment.

Our Literacy lessons focus on advanced vocabulary, spelling, grammar, and punctuation—key components for success in 11+ English assessments. Students will develop precision in their writing, using a wide range of sentence structures, sophisticated punctuation, and expressive vocabulary. Lessons combine guided instruction with practical exercises to help pupils identify and correct errors, improving both technical accuracy and written style.

This course section equips students with strategies to analyse complex texts and respond effectively to comprehension questions. Pupils will explore a variety of fiction and non-fiction genres, enhancing their understanding of language, tone, and structure. Essay writing sessions will cover descriptive, persuasive, and narrative forms, with opportunities to practise planning, drafting, and refining their work.

Our Maths lessons build fluency and problem-solving skills in key examinable topics such as number operations, algebra, measurement, probability, and geometry. Students will tackle both short exercises to consolidate new learning and multi-step word problems that require deeper reasoning. The emphasis is on applying mathematical knowledge with clarity and accuracy under timed conditions.

These sessions strengthen pupils’ logical thinking, pattern recognition, and vocabulary skills. Students will work through a range of question types found in 11+ and independent school exams, from word-based puzzles to visual-spatial challenges. The aim is to build both speed and accuracy while developing flexible problem-solving strategies.
- Think logically and recognise patterns at speed
- Handle the question types used in 11+ and independent school exams
- Tackle both word-based puzzles and visual-spatial challenges
- Work with both speed and accuracy using flexible problem-solving strategies
Students will be given a homework booklet or revision task each day for each subject. Homework consists of 3 pages of tasks reflecting the topics covered during the day’s lesson. Students must submit their homework at the start of the following day. These booklets will be marked and returned to you with the tutor’s comments, providing feedback on students’ progress and highlighting their strengths and areas for improvement.
In case you’d like to review any of the work with your child after the course itself, mark schemes will be made available to view on the online portal until the end of the year, in December.

Payment is made in full when you book. There is no separate deposit. Once you have booked, you will receive a booking confirmation email, and your place is secured once full payment is received.
Please note that spaces are offered on a first come, first served basis, and priority is given to those who book all subjects.
Cancellations made before 4th October 2026 are refunded in full, less a £100 cancellation fee.
Unfortunately, we are unable to refund cancellations made on or after 4th October 2026.
The full timetable will be released by 13th October 2026. Your specific schedule will depend on which subjects you have selected, but your times will fall between 9am and 2:15pm.
Please note that there is no set homework on Friday.
Please notify us if your child has any severe allergies, medical conditions, or any regular medications that we should be aware of prior to the start of the course so that necessary arrangements can be made.
If you would like your evening classes to be removed from your invoice during the October Half Term Course, please notify us at least four weeks in advance.

- Limited off-street parking on Alverstone Road / Egerton Road (1 minute walk), but please be respectful to our neighbours and traffic restrictions in the area
We ask that you continue to be respectful and considerate towards our neighbours when picking up and dropping off. Please ensure that you do not block driveways at any time, and ensure to switch off your engine when you are waiting in your car.

We recommend that our online students have a computer or laptop device with access to Google Chrome for the best experience.
Please ensure your child has access to the correct workbook for the correct day and all necessary stationery (pencil, rubber, ruler). Calculators are not necessary for this course.
